Silver River State Park
This weekend we camped at Silver River SP. This FL state park has huge sites, mostly pull throughs. The park is just behind Silver Springs nature theme park in Ocala. We went here to see George Jones perform on Saturday.
Silver Springs
The concert was a zoo. The day threatened rain, luckily none came. George Jones did not do songs we knew and wanted! and his voice was weak.
The zoo at Silver Springs has a wonderful variety of bears. They were fun to watch being fed, swimming in their pond, and playing in the area. Two of the bears had faces like raccoons! I did not get their types. The two grizzles were as cute as the picture in the Silver Springs ad.
Sunday AM we enjoyed breakfast at Carmichael's, which was recommended by the park ranger.
Gloria drove the Motorhome home.

Aunt Catfish's On the River
Today we visited snowbird friends from NY in their Oceanfront
condo in South Daytona. Gloria has known Mary and Frank from
our flying days when we were members of ICS -International
Comanche Society (we were Piper Comanche owners, not Indians).

We all went to Aunt Catfish's On the River for lunch.
Aunt Catfish's has been a local favorite for years. It
is located in Port Orange and has great seafood and much more with
a wonderful water view. This restaurant is very popular with
snowbirds, including many RVers. Jerry had oysters, Frank
had salmon, and the women had pork roast in cranberry sauce.
All were wonderful and we had plenty to bring home for another
meal. YES!!! no cooking tonight.

Did you "Meet the Fokkers?"
We finally got to 2 movies this week.
Just returned from "Meet the Fokkers". This is
a sequel to "Meet the Parents" and just as funny.
One of the stars is Jack's "RV", alias "trailer".
It says Fleetwood on it and has its own command
center under the bed. Fun Motorcoach and
what a 180 turn it did.
We also say "Racing Stripes" where a zebra dreams
of being a race horse. It starts with the cutest
baby zebra. Does his dream come true???
We also enjoyed this movie.

Magnolia tree is just showing flowers. WOW!! they are huge.

came from the nursery at Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo, NC when visiting in 2000.

Exercising Genny
Our Onan Quiet Diesel generator is a wonder. It can supply us with 50 amps of electrical power and hardly be heard. We use it for several things.
We use it when we are driving and it is very hot and humid.
We use it to charge our 4 AGM batteries, if we have been boondocking and using the inverter and are not going to be having electrical power from hookups to recharge.
One thing "Genny" needs is to be exercised!
The manual tell us to run it fully loaded for 2 hours, monthly. I do this by running the two air conditioners.
Well, I "should have" exercised it last week, when the temperature was 85 degrees in FL! Even in Orlando area today, the temperatue is forcasted to be in the 60s.
I guess Genny may wait a few days until that cool air can be appreciated.

Trip Planning for Spring/summer trip
This blog is being set up for our planned trip from FL to Alaska, with many stops going West to the Pacific Ocean and up the coast via CA, OR, WA, BC.
We will leave from home in Deltona, FL the week of April 5,2005.
What are some of our guidelines when traveling?
We avoid large cities with the motorhome
(37 foot Cross Country Class A),
as much as possible, taking the toad (Honda CRV)
for local visits.
The car is equipped with an inside wheelchair lift,
for Jerry's Pride Jet 3 power wheelchair, we need to visit
accessible, level, firm places.
We do walks, hikes and attractions with firm surfaces for
the power wheel chair.
We need large parking lots with turnaround for the MH
when we plan to leave the car hooked up
(we can not back up when the car is hooked on).
What do we use to plan?
Anything and everything we can find!
Order and study AAA maps and tour books.
Brainstorm, google for the planned area, and following up items of interest.
RV Caravan itineraries - there are so many. This gives an idea of how long we may
want to be at a place. Use the caravan companies and also Camping World, Good Sam,
most major RV manufacturers have tours, SMART (Military).
It also gives an "idea" of price (hopefully on the high side
HA!HA!HA!).
Other Travel tour itineraries (like Trafalgar Tours, AAA tours).
Travellogs and personal websites, especially RVers.
The national park website.
National Parks
Making files.
Make an online folder of Favorites for the trip, with a sub folder for each major
area or attraction. Further break down as needed.
Make a box with pendaflex folders, that can go with us, similiar to the online
folders. Put all printouts from online searches and brochures that we gather.
Study routes on mapping programs and paper maps. Find points of interest,
cities, parks, and distances.
Study Camping directories, look at possible boondock and non boondock
sites. (Trailer Life, Passport America, Military Campgrounds.)

Daytona USA, Daytona Beach, FL
One of the pleasures of being in Central Florida is
all the attractions that are close by and the best.
One of these is Daytona USA. We have been driving by
it on a weekly basis and said "Someday we will go
there". Well we did and said, "Why did we wait so
long to go?"
There are many presentation inside - a demo pitstop change,
a cross section of the famous Daytona "Highbanks" which are
the 31 degree banked turns, IMAX, and more.
A narrated tram takes you on a Speedway tour through the
twin tunnels, onto the track and up the Highbanks, pit row,
and Victory lane. To be in the Pitstop on race day, with its
close quarters and activity, must be unbelievable. Of course,
to be in Victory Lane has to be, WELL???
For RVers, by Speedweek, 2005 (February), the infield area around the
lake will be a year-round high end RV park, full hookup and more.

Disney World Florida Residents Pass
WDW has a 3 day Florida Residents Pass for $119 that can
be used for 6 months after the first visit. So, off we went to
MGM Studios, today.
When we were buying our pass, the ticket woman asked if we
wanted the pass with NO Expiration date for another $10.
What a deal!
This is one of the best times to visit Disney
(crowds are down).
Today's weather was perfect - shorts and T-shirt weather,
as George calls it!

DeLorme Street Atlas 2005 patch
Are you getting an error message
"...ISO errors..." when using the FIND tab or ROUTE tab?
There is a download that needs to
be run in DeLorme Support website.
It has to do with new updates to
DeLorme from NOAA. It is easy to run and solves
the problem for all SA2003,2004,2005,etc.
