We visited the Borax mine. This was where the 20 Mule Teams had been used to get the Borax out of the mines and distributed.

Lots of Pistacio Trees with the nuts starting to ripen. No one was around, so we did not get any pistacios, here.

Heat in Needles continues
Will this oppresive heat end? Probably not while we are still here! It was about 109 degrees again today. I felt like I had a heat stroke today. Heaven forbid in this place with no hospital!
Thank goodness we have 50 amp electric and 2 air conditioners and a 12 volt portable Fantastic fan. They are on to the fullest until late in the evening.

Phanton Ranch is the green spot (at the bottom of the canyon and the Bright Angel trail, which you can hike to or take the mules).

This is Interstate 40 through Kingman, AZ on the way from Needles, CA to the Grand Canyon. The mountain cut and road are awesome.

Grand Canyon
We spent 2 full days "windshield viewing" the vistas of the Grand Canyon.
This is a great park for the mobility impaired as they give you a pass that we can drive on the shuttle bus route, since Jerry can not get in and out of the shuttle buses and take his wheelchair. This works out great as he can see from the car and sometimes get to the rim with a few steps.
The digital camera works well to expand his view also. I do some hiking and picture taking and he can look at the pictures on the digital display. Is this "reality showing"?

Did I say it is HOT!!
After 2 days of 107 and 115 degrees in Needles and sitting in the air conditioning, we are going to the Grand Canyon, AZ tomorrow (Sunday) for 3 nights - day temp mid 70s, eve 40s.
Looks as if the heat will still be with us in Needles for Memorial Day weekend.
And... our monthly camping rate is PLUS electric!

Lake Mead Recreation area
It is hard to get a glimpse of the Colorado River. When we do, it is beautiful and very bluish green. Water flows fast and I am told it is COLD.
We went up to Laughlin, NV, which has lots of casinos and then to Davis Dam and looked at Davis Campground and Katherine's Landing.
Looking at routes to head north from here. Anyone have any ideas if we take SR 395 from Barstow, CA and then up to Crater Lake via Susanville, CA and Klamath Falls, OR?

Heat wave in the desert
The weather here is being forcasted for 107 and up to 115 for Sunday.
What a place to be stuck!!
We plan to drive over to the Grand Canyon on Sunday for a few days. High there is only 84 and low of 40!!!
Our washer/dryer is fixed.

Deja Vu
We are in Needles, CA.
It is Monday evening and my blog times are still set for FL!
Jerry had a detached retina in his good eye on Sunday. We went to the emergency room in Needles. They sent us to Las Vegas to meet the retina surgeon for immediate emergency surgery.
He did well and is recovering. It will be about 3 weeks before we know what will happen to his sight. Doctor says procnosis good. We will stay in Needles and drive weekly to Vegas. Vegas traffic and streets and horible.

What fun to visit Oatman and its burros.
The town is cute old West and the burros are roaming the streets and very friendly.

Langtry, TX - Judge Roy Bean, Justice of the peace, Law west of the Pecos

We have been without cell phone and internet. Finally have WiFi tonight at RVDocs in Las Cruces.
We did a lot of windshield sightseeing, making up for our 3 week delayed departure.
First to Big Bend which is awesome. On the way there we stopped in Langtry, TX, home Judge Roy Beam. This was a pleasant side trip and had a fabulous cactus garden. Enjoyed signs explaining the desert plants we had been passing.
Today we toured Carlsbad Caverns. We did the handicap, wheelchair tour of the Big Room. It was the first time Jerry had been able to go in a cave and he was in awe.
Will try to post some pictures.
