Waiting in Athens for Honda

April 26, 2004 Monday

Breakfast with Paul at his kid’s restaurant, Backside Café before he returned to Florida.

Drove to Tyler on rte 31. Visited Tyler Municipal Rose Garden, which features over 38,000 rose bushes of 500 varieties. Favorites were Love & Peace (yellow and peach), Marilyn Monroe (a blond peach) and Opening Night (brilliant flaming red). Of course the Don Juan was as bright red, climbing and fragrant as ever. Being Texas, there was a Barbara Bush rose.

Next stop was the Caldwell Zoo.   This zoo has 2,000 kinds of wildlife in a natural habitat. Biggest elephant in captivity, white and black long haired monkeys with the coloring of a skunk, jacquar (one spotted and one black, the ranger said the black one would be spotted when in the sun), an ocelot that came out of hiding, roared at us, and returned to the caves.   The park attendents were very helpful in getting Jerry access into the park and helping with a wheelchair - it was too hilly for me to push him, so we had a ranger escort.

On the way back to Athens,  Jerry notices that he can not see.

Clean up day around the RV. Dinner at local steak house.

April 24, 2004 Saturday

Paul from Gold Club in  FL is here in Athens at his kid's ranch. Last night we all went to a Crawdad bake (crawfish flown in from LA). What a treat to be at the ranch, meet the family, and to have crawfish that we had seen being harvested in LA.
